The dominant religion of modern Aetheria. The Temple worships the seven living gods — and politely ignores the two that have died, along with any older names that have faded from memory.
The Seven Living Gods
| Name | Domain | Symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Velisara | Dawn, hope, new beginnings | Sunrise |
| Thorin | Stone, smiths, sworn words | Anvil |
| Vessen | Harvest, plenty, family | Sheaves of grain |
| Korr | Defence, mourning, standing in the gap | Broken shield |
| Aevan | Witnessing, scholarship, kept knowledge | Eye on a closed book |
| Sylth | Death, rest, the passed | Closed door with iron key |
(A seventh seat at the altar is kept for the one the Temple rarely names in public — Mara, of the deep currents, whose star went dark — but it is kept dressed pending further clarity.)
What the Temple Does
Priests tend shrines on most inhabited isles. They lead rites for birth, marriage, harvest, and funeral. They heal the sick when they can. They mediate disputes. They preserve calendars and festivals.
They also — quietly, carefully — do not talk about what it means when a god dies.
What Ordinary Folk Believe
Most people keep an altar at home to whichever god they feel closest to. A smith leaves offerings to Thorin. A sailor’s family lights candles for Sylth when the ship is late. A new mother whispers thanks to Vessen. The theology is lived, not studied.
For centuries this was enough. It may still be enough. No one is quite certain anymore.
