Our world is called Aetheria. Four centuries ago it was one continuous continent, held in balance by nine gods. Then came The Unmaking — a cosmic catastrophe that no one remembers clearly. The continent shattered into floating fragments. The gods fell silent. Between the islands arose The Mistsea: an ethereal expanse of drifting cloud-sea through which airships now travel.
Today, people have made peace with the world as it stands. Skyfarers navigate the Mistsea. Trade flourishes. Civilisations have adapted. But three things are happening at once, and no one yet understands how they fit together:
- The gods are dying. One after another, their stars vanish from the night sky. The first two are already gone. The priesthood denies it in public.
- The Verdant is spreading. A vast, living mass of growth has taken root on distant isles, devouring stone and transforming everything it touches. No one knows where it came from.
- The Mistsea is changing. Navigators report new currents, new colours, new sounds. The old routes are no longer reliable.
Something is coming. No one is sure what.
